Tracing Sources of Total Gaseous Mercury to Yongheung Island off the Coast of Korea

چکیده
In this study, total gaseous mercury (TGM) concentrations were measured on Yongheung Island off the coast of Korea between mainland Korea and Eastern China in 2013. The purpose of this study was to qualitatively evaluate the impact of local mainland Korean sources and regional Chinese sources on local TGM concentrations using multiple tools including the relationship with other pollutants, meteorological data, conditional probability function, backward trajectories, and potential source contribution function (PSCF) receptor modeling. Among the five sampling campaigns, two sampling periods were affected by both mainland Korean and regional sources, one was caused by mainland vehicle emissions, another one was significantly impacted by regional sources, and, in the remaining period, Hg volatilization from oceans was determined to be a significant source and responsible for the increase in TGM concentration. PSCF identified potential source areas located in metropolitan areas, western coal-fired power plant locations, and the southeastern industrial area of Korea as well as the Liaoning province, the largest Hg emitting province in China. In general, TGM concentrations generally showed morning peaks (07:00~12:00) and was significantly correlated with solar radiation during all sampling periods. OPEN ACCESS Atmosphere 2014, 5 274

Mercury Concentrations over the Baltic Sea
Mercury is a toxic pollutant emitted from both natural sources and through human 7 activities. A global interest in atmospheric mercury has risen ever since the discovery of the 8 Minamata disease in 1956. Properties of gaseous elemental mercury enable long range transport 9 which can cause pollution even in pristine environments. Total gaseous mercury (TGM) was 10 measured from winter 2016 to ...

The study presents the result of a new attempt for benthic biotopes remote sensing in the southern coast of the Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf. This survey site covers approximately 233 km2 in water depth between five and 25 m. Bathymetric data was derived from the single beam survey and grab stations, underwater video and photos were undertaken as ground-trusthing. The acoustic results showe...

Total lipids, fatty acid composition and heavy metal content of Sardina pilchardus fillet samples captured in February 2014 in Beni saf, Mostaganem, Ghazaouet, Algiers and Jijet coast were evaluated. Total lipid content was related to the five sites of catch (p < /em>< 0.05). Concerning the heavy metals, the levels of lead (Pb) ranged from 0.013mg to 0.024mg, however those of mercury (Hg) varie...

Five regional scale models with a horizontal domain covering the European continent and its surrounding seas, one hemispheric and one global scale model participated in an atmospheric mercury modelling intercomparison study. Model-predicted concentrations in ambient air were compared against mercury species observed at four monitoring stations in Central and Northern Europe and a station on the...
